Two years after introducing its successful Meijer Organics line of products, Meijer reveiled another health-focused brand that does not contain any artificial ingredients or additives.
Meijer Naturals, which will began appearing on store shelves this week, was created to provide a healthy and tasty alternative for customers who seek wholesome foods that are minimally processed and contain nothing artificial.
“Meijer Naturals is a natural fit for us, and a great fit for those who lead a smart and active lifestyle where healthy living and eating are paramount,” said Ralph Fischer, group vice president-foods at Meijer. “This is an exciting brand that we feel today’s shopper will embrace given that it’s delicious, wholesome and a great value.”
With 75 different items comprising its product lineup, Meijer Naturals is a sister brand to Meijer Organics. Positioned as a natural alternative to processed mainstream products, the new brand will include everything from snacks and sauces to desserts and beverages.
This health-oriented brand contains no Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s), no high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners, no added hydrogenated oils or trans fats, no artificial food colorings or flavorings, and no artificial preservatives.

What’s new behind the deli case at your local Meijer? Meijer Vine Ripened Tomato Bruschetta and Fresh Tomato Salsa that’s what.
As the Corporate Research Chef for Meijer it is with great pride on behalf of the product development and manufacturing teams I get to tell you a little about why we are so excited about this brand new Meijer brand product launch.
Now I’m sure most of you know what Salsa is but you really don’t know fresh salsa until you’ve tried our fresh vine ripened tomato salsa. Made with rich, ripe, and sweet Roma tomatoes, fresh onions, spicy jalapeños, and a great hit of cilantro and lime juice makes Meijer Vine Ripened Tomato Salsa the freshest and most flavorful you can buy.
Now, let’s talk Classic Bruschetta. What is a Bruschetta you might ask? By doing a simple search on-line we find that Bruschetta is toasted bread seasoned with garlic and olive oil, commonly served warm as an appetizer, snack, or side dish. The name comes from the Italian word bruscare, which means "to roast over coals." Many variations of Bruschetta exist; adding tomatoes, other vegetables or beans is common. The simplest form of Bruschetta starts with Tuscan bread, toasted either over coals or in a toaster. Rub the toasted slices with a cut clove of garlic, and then drizzle with extra virgin olive oil. Salt and pepper the prepared Bruschetta if desired. As a tradition, Bruschetta serves to test the new harvest of olive oil each year.
Other variations include tomato, vegetables and/or cheese toppings. Sometimes the bread is nearly immersed in oil, but usually it is just drizzled. To prepare a tomato Bruschetta, rub the toasted slices with a ripe cut tomato, or top the bread with a layer of chopped tomatoes seasoned with basil, salt, and pepper, and then drizzle with oil.
Bruschetta is also a means to use bread that is beginning to get stale by adding oil and seasonings to improve flavor. Many variations of Bruschetta use uniquely flavored roasted or hard breads. A vegetable Bruschetta might incorporate mushrooms, roasted peppers, and/or olives. Cheese topped versions can include feta, mozzarella, parmesan, or even blue cheese.
Chef Ray’s Shrimp Veracruz
The breads used for Bruschetta vary; some recipes call for Italian, French, or baguette. The most common breads used for Bruschetta are two versions of pane pugliese, piadana and crescente. However, traditional Bruschetta is made with Tuscan bread, which is a rather tasteless, white bread with a crunchy crust.
So with that traditional inspiration in mind we created a full flavored Bruschetta with plum tomatoes, shallots, basil, garlic and some great olive oil. I’m sure you’ll agree that our Meijer Vine Ripened Tomato Bruschetta can be used as a bread topper, as a pasta sauce, or countless applications where tomato is needed.
Jillian’s Easy Chunky Guacamole
Easy Chunky Guacamole
Ingredients:
2 ripe avocados
½ cup Markets of Meijer brand Vine Ripened Tomato Salsa
1 clove garlic, minced
Juice of one lime
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Mash avocados and lime juice in a bowl with a fork. Stir in remaining ingredients and season to taste. Serve immediately with Meijer brand tortilla chips.

Chef Ray’s Creamy Grilled Chicken and Orzo Pasta
Ingredients:
1 pound Markets of Meijer Vine Ripened Tomato Salsa
1 – 16 oz package Meijer brand Orzo pasta
1 – 12 oz bottle Meijer Organics Italian Dressing
½ cup Meijer brand mayonnaise
3-4 chicken breasts (approx 1.5 lbs)
Directions:
Marinate chicken breasts in ½ cup Italian dressing for 30 – 60 minutes. Grill or broil chicken until juices run clear, cut into bite-sized pieces. Cook and drain pasta as directed. Combine remaining salad dressing and ½ cup mayonnaise in a bowl. Whisk until smooth and creamy. Add salsa and chicken and refrigerate for 2-4 hours, or overnight.
Classic Italian Bruschetta
Ingredients:
1 pound Markets of Meijer Vine Ripened Tomato Bruschetta
1 loaf Markets of Meijer French Bread
1 whole garlic cloves, peeled
2 tablespoons Meijer brand extra virgin olive oil
½ cup Meijer brand shredded parmesan cheese (optional)
Directions:
Slice bread, on a diagonal, into ¼ inch slices. Brush both sides of bread with olive oil and place under broiler or on a grill for 2-3 minutes per side. Rub warm toasted bread with garlic cloves and top each slice with bruschetta and cheese, if desired.
Chef Ray’s Bruschetta Shrimp Veracruz
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon Meijer brand olive oil
1 pound Meijer brand ready to cook frozen shrimp, thawed, tails removed
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
1 pound Markets of Meijer Vine Ripened Tomato Bruschetta
3 cups of rice or couscous, cooked
Directions:
In a skillet, heat olive oil on medium heat. Add shrimp and cook for 3-4 minutes or until pink. Add orange zest and bruschetta, reduce heat to low and let simmer for 3-5 minutes. Prepare rice or couscous and mound on bowl or platter. Serve the sauce and shrimp over the rice or couscous and serve with sliced Markets of Meijer French bread.
Look for more Bruschetta and Salsa variations like mushroom, white bean and fire roasted vegetable to be produced at our own central kitchen in the near future.
