Summary of Recall:  Rich Products Corporation today announced in cooperation with U.S. Department of Agriculture it is voluntarily expanding its recall of various heat treated, not fully cooked frozen mini meals and snack items due to possible E. coli O121 contamination.  This is an expansion of a recall initiated on 3/28/2013.

Hazard: Infection with E. coli O121 can result in dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps 2-8 days (3-4 days, on average) after exposure to the organism. While most people recover within a week, some develop a type of kidney failure called HUS, Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome. This condition can occur among persons of any age but is most common in children under 5-years old and older adults. Symptoms of HUS may include fever, abdominal pain, pale skin tone, fatigue, small, unexplained bruises or bleeding from the nose and mouth, decreased urination, and swelling. Persons who experience these symptoms should seek emergency medical care immediately.

Summary of Recall:  LifeScan, Inc. announced in cooperation with the FDA it is issuing a voluntarily recall and replacement of all One Touch Verio IQ Blood Glucose Meters in the United States.

Hazard: LifeScan is recalling and replacing all OneTouch® Verio®IQ Meters because at extremely high blood glucose levels of 1024 mg/dL and above, the meter will not provide a warning that the blood glucose is extremely high and will shut off, thereby potentially leading to incorrect treatment and delaying proper treatment.

The likelihood of experiencing an extremely high blood glucose level of 1024 mg/dL or higher is remote; however, when such a blood glucose level occurs, it is a serious health risk requiring immediate medical attention. Because these products do not provide an appropriate warning at glucose levels of 1024 mg/dL or higher, diagnosis and treatment of extreme hyperglycemia may be delayed or incorrect treatment may be given resulting in potentially serious health risk or fatality.

Summary of Recall:  King Arthur Flour are voluntarily recalling a limited number of 5-lb King Arthur All-Purpose Flour and 5-lb King Arthur Bread Flour bags because of the possible presence of food-safe polyurethane balls that passed through sifter screens in the milling process.  Small, polyurethane balls approximately 7mm to 9mm (1/4" to 3/8") in size may have dropped into bags during the final sifting stage of the milling process. The balls have a smooth surface and no sharp edges and are made from food grade material. Because of their bright blue color and size (about half the diameter of a dime), they are easily seen in the flour.

Only 5-lb. bags of King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour and King Arthur Unbleached Bread Flour that have a Best Used By Date and Lot Codes noted above are affected. This information is printed on the side of the bag beneath the nutrition panel. If the Best Used By Date and Lot Code number are printed on the TOP of the bag, then the product is NOT affected.
