I have been shopping at Meijers for 40 years. I am still waiting to win my first contest. Maybe before the end of the year.

chuck cassis's story:

We have been loyal Meijer customers since the store on Central Ave. in Toledo Oh. openned. So we have had mostly ups and a few downs. After the remodel the store seemed to never have shelves full of merchandise. In the past year the store always has full shelves, cleaner and more organized. I asked if there was a new manager and was told yes. Well congradulations for a job well done Mr. Ellis. You have restored our faith in Meijer and have kept a loyal customer who was beginning to stray. After asking a few employees that we have gotten to know over the years they have stated how well the store is run now and what a pleasure it is to work there. You can tell by their attitudes.

justtina's story:

My mom tells me it is very early morning and very late at night best times she might find meat or other close to date perishables marked down. My experience at my meijer stores is that the times vary so it is best to check often, so if I find myself passing a meijer I stop for a quick check on the meat and perishables areas and if I spot an item close to date and am in a daring mood I occasionally ask about it if a worker happens to be near.

concerned customer's story:

i have been a meijer cutomer for over 20 years until today i had the worst experience i could imagine at the taylor meijers in michigan i went to return a bottle of hair dye that i bought and didn't need..i wasn't sure what i did with the sales slip..i went to the customer service desk and was greeted by barbara..i told her i needed to return the item and wasn't quite sure what i did with the reciept..she asked for my drivers  id  and scanned it thru the register and then rudely informed me that i returned an item last month and i was at my limit for returns with out a reciept..she told me i was informed of this lost month when i returned something i had bought.. no one had told me the return policy and i looked on the back of another sales slip i had that doesnt specify this new policy that meijers has and it is not posted any where in the store..so i walked away from the  service desk and asked another employee what the policy was and they could not tell me because they didn't know and neither did the other 5 people i asked..so i returned to the  desk and asked to speak with the  store manager..she came down and i explained what happened and she could not tell me the store policy either or could not explain to me why it is not posted on back of sales slip and why its not posted in the store but she did inform me that the customer service rep handled me in the right manner..well i guess that means it was ok to be rude to me and treat me like a common criminal in front of the other customers this lady embarrassed me and treated me less than a dog..i was upset and walked thru the store and i couldn't even concentrate on shopping so  i sat in the cafeteria and dug around in my purse and found the sales slip and i returned  the hair dye and walked  out and left a cart with groceries and drove to the krogers 10 miles away..i am glad i went  i talked to their customer service rep to find out there store policy before i shopped and she was very nice.. and told me.., what happened at meijers was uncalled for and shouldnt have happened..i was told at kroger if i ever lost my receipt that as long as the item was under 20 dollars i would be given store credit..the store was a nice change and offered alot of variety and a friendly staff..good customer service is important to me i want to feel at ease when i shop somewhere and i don't want to be treated like i am a pain in the butt.

seemore's story:

PUT IT ON SALE

I shop at Meijers for everything.   But from what I heard from some workers they throw away hundreds of pounds of meat everyweek.    Why not do it like Kroger when the meat are about to expire they lower the price and so poor people like me can afford to put more food on the table.  Most workers at Meijers  in my area are from a foreighn country and they even say if Meijer only put a price on them they will buy it.  Say for employee price only that way it is not thrown away.  I am sure that therewill be those  who might take advantage of it by buyong for members of the family or friends but at the same time it will reduce the amount of garbage  they have to dispose of.  With proper supervision they should be able to do it so no one will put new meat and pass it as almost expired.

bellefleur's story:

As long as I've lived in MI (almost 15 years) I've been a loyal Meijer customer and its only now that I'm leaving the state that I'm thinking of some of the Meijer brand items I'm going to miss!

The cottage cheese, cream cheese and other dairy products I can't stock up on really, but I'm planning on picking up lots of the spiral macaroni & cheese. A lot of the time I'll try the Meijer brand items and am surprised that the quality is so good and for much cheaper than the name brands. That said, they carry a lot of the name brands we really like, too, and always have fresh baguettes and Kinder in the world foods aisle. (My husband is European and loves this aisle!)

The only thing I haven't enjoyed lately was the Meijer Naturals Cheese Puffs which were fairly tasteless. Only a few had enough cheesy coating on them to be palatable.

We also appreciate the special dietary needs aisle, except Walden Farms calorie free sauces are highly suspect and I can say with certainty that the alfredo one is nothing short of nasty. blech.

We're going to miss Meijer. We even have a special route we take through the store every time we go.  Expand to the South!

Amanda's story:

I just wanted to agree with Funnyface I only shop where I can get double coupons because my only concern with shopping is cost.  I am on such a tight budget that it would be nice to be able to stock up when you have a good sale but it is frustrating to have to break it up into mutliple orders or trips just so I can use all my coupons.  There are many local stores here that do not limit the number of coupons that you can use it is sad that Meijer is not one of them.  Also many stores where I live offer triple coupons about 4 or 5 times a year but Meijer never does.  It would be nice if they did that occasionally and started price matching again like Wal-mart.

funnyface's story:

Meijer Rocks!

I have been shopping at Meijer ever since they came to Cincinnati.  I LOVE the 10 for $10 sale.  That is when I stock up on the Meijer canned chicken, love that stuff on my salads.

The only thing I wish Meijer would change would be their coupon policy.  The main reason I shop at Meijer is that they double their coupons, if they stopped doing that, I don't think I would shop here anymore.  I just wish you could have more than 2 of the same coupon.  We are a family of 8 & sometimes only buying 2 of something just doesn't last.  It makes me have to make multiple trips to the store which is such a waste of gas.

Andrea's story:

in response to Bob's story about the credit card, this happened to me once at Meijer. It was MY bank that was at fault not Meijer. They simply do as they are instructed to by your financial institution. Apparantly there had been too many faulty PIN tries with my card and my bank sent out an alert to destroy the card whenever it was tried again and to be sent to the bank. A manager took my card, explained to me what was happening, and shredded it in front of me, etc. I was of course mad, but really if it had been someone else using it then I would have been thankful.

Andrea's story:

I absolutely love Meijer. It beats Wal*Mart out in selection, service, and freshness. I used to go to Wal*Mart once and a while, but now will not step foot in the store due to poor customer service, rotten vegetables numerous times, and poor selection.

Meijer's produce truly is amazing. They manage to have a huge amount to choose from, organic, basically everything anyone could want even to rival local health food stores. They somehow manage to do this and keep prices low and keep the fruit and vegetables fresh! Consistantly their standards are above average.

I love Meijer brand products, also. I like stocking up on condiments and pastas when they have their 10 for $10 sales. It is a truly great deal.

I refuse to eat any other ranch dressing besides Meijer original recipe. I have tried everything else, and nothing compares to it. I even have friends and family who agree with me on this one. It has a really rich taste to it, and you would swear it was restaraunt-made.

I also like to shop at the bigger Meijer stores; the one in Cascade is my favorite because it is close to work. They have a huge selection of wines and cheeses, and even chocolate pairings. I also like how they are getting more and more health conscious foods including gluten free and organic. I am not a raw food eater, etc, but I do like to buy healthy foods and I enjoy the huge selection! Basically Meijer is amazing and I could probably live in the store if they let me.

Oh, and because I am a busy full time student and work, too, it is also nice that they are open 24 hours.

a guy's story:

About once a week my family and I shop at meijer. In the past I have been very pleased with the store; however, lately it seems the matinence of various facilities and store functions has become rather slothful. My biggest complaint relates to the faulty "automatic" doors at the stores entrances. It has become evident to me that even walking at the slowest of paces these doors refuse to open at a reasonable speed. Thus, on multiple occasions I have witnessed one of my family members run into the doors; it has since occured to me that these doors could pose a safety concern to any unsuspecting victims. I believe that something should be done to remedy this problem before one of my beloved family members or another customer sustains some form of injury. Thank you for taking the time to read my meijer story complaint.

bobsmith145's story:

The local Meijer store is usually good at what they do. The store is usually clean, produce is fresh, and staffing is adequate. Unfortunately, my last visit was a very negative one.

I had selected the few items I needed. I went through checkout and slipped my credit card through the reader. The employee at the register announced that my card was reported as a "stolen card'. It was a little unnerving, but sometimes mistakes happen by either Meijer, American Express, or some other system. A manager was paged, and I was escorted off the floor to the service desk. The manager kept my card in hand. I asked her to call the credit card company and offered my ID and an alternative payment method. I paid my small grocery bill and waited for the manager to call on the card. She looked confused. I asked her if she knew the merchant number to call. She then flipped my card over and saw the 800 number that card holders use. She then called that number. When she was asked for my authentication she obviously didn't have it and hung up the phone. At that point I offered to call my credit card company before she did anything since she was having a problem. I moved to the side of the line, so people behind me at the Service desk could be helped. I immediately called and talked with American Express. They had no record of my card being reported stolen or that Meijer had even attempted to use the card.

I returned to the Service Desk and asked for the manager again. A different manager in a red shirt/vest approached me asking me what I needed. Before I could finish explaining the situation she cut me off and told me it was Meijer policy to shred any card that comes back as "stolen". I revisited the conversation I had with her other manager that she would hold the card, till they were able to confirm with the credit card company. She said that "wasn't policy".

At that point I was disappointed and growing increasingly frustrated. I then asked them to retry the card number, as I had it with me. She replied that if there was an error it must be with the credit card company, and it absolutely couldn't have been with the staff, their reader, process, or training on verifying situations like this.

A little training and care on the part of the staff of Meijer could have prevented this situation. For that reason, I have rediscovered how wonderful our other locally owned stores are. We have two stores in particular that offer personal service, great selection, fantastic prices, and attention to detail.

Thanks for hosting this forum for longtime customers to talk about their both positive and negative experiences.

Catmeat's story:

I just love shoping at Meijer's. I always buy things that are on sale and I save so much money. We have a walmart across the street and I feel I save even more shopping at Meijer.  People need to realize that Walmart is not always cheaper. At the end of a season the clearance Items are a steel. Especially if they have the coupons through out the store to save even more. I also love their online sweepsteaks. I have won a 50.00 gift card. Also I won a 25.00 gift card from their epanel surveys. They just remodeled our Meijer and it is kinda sad to see our old store that I have known since I was a child now so different and bigger.I will always shop at Meijer as long as they stay in business.

I like to shop at Meijer.  I really like to do shopping online too, and I do a lot of it.  I think that your website is very confusing.  I was going to buy all of my toys for Christmas online, and became very confused, and just went to Walmart.com instead.  I also cannot find any clothes or apparel other than socks on your website...do you even have these items available on the website?  Having two kids under 3, with one on the way, doing my online shopping is so much more convienient.  But I hate having to go to other websites because I am not happy with yours.

Beth's story:

Christopher and Jim B. at the Gaines Township Meijer really went above and beyond to help me with a product defect a while ago.

Back in January, my husband and I purchased a humidifier at Meijer. We used it until April, then put it away for the summer. When I got it back out again in November, it worked for a few weeks, and then died completely.

We didn't have high hopes that Meijer could do anything about it. I was concerned I'd have to go through some long process with the manufacturer, and in the meantime, was going to have a very dry, stuffy apartment! But we brought it back to Meijer anyway, and asked them if they could help. Jim and Christopher said that while Meijer's policy is usually that they'll take back defective items after 90 days or less, since they had one in stock, they'd go ahead and switch out the defective one for us this time.

And even though the price of the humidifier had gone up $10 since I first bought it in January, and I offered to pay the difference, they still gave me the replacement one for free.

The whole thing took about 10 minutes, and we were on our way with a working humidifier. It's no wonder we shop at Meijer several times a week. Thanks, Christopher and Jim!

dalebout's story:

On Monday evening, I went to your Lansing/Delta Township store (Saginaw Hwy) in search to purchase gluten free foods for a relative.  Being not familiar with these products, I had asked the greeter where these products were located.  He said:  "I don't know, but I will find this information for you".   He talked with other Mejer employees, and then personally took the time to show where the products were located.  He was very kind personable person that went out of his way to help me.  I don't know his name, but he was a very tall black man that was working as your greeter at th west door new groceries about 9:30 pm   If there was a person that was deserving of a Christmas bonus for personal service, it ceratainly was this Meijer employee.  I didn't know how to say "thank you".   So I decided to post this note so that the store manager and your corporate office staff  was aware of this employee.  Perhaps you could share this note with him too.

Thank you,

poocooper's story:

I always choose Meijer's over Kroger's unless they don't carry a specific item I really need like the Bob Evan's refrigerated home fries, but we love their pepperoni and center-cut bacon .  I prefer it over Hormel and the price is friendlier. The canned veggies are awesome, too.  I always buy their milk.

I was driving my kids home from swim class this summer and noticed a new Meijer in Huber Heights, Ohio, so naturally we had to stop in and check it out.  It is my new favorite  Meijer and I go out of my way to go to that one instead of mine if I get the chance.  I like the variety and new features. It almost looks like they are trying to do a few of the same things Wal-mart has in the front of the store with the bank, nails salon, etc and that is nice because I don't shop Wal-mart anymore.

Es123's story:

I usually shop at the Meijer store in Northville.  It is close to a lot of other stores I like to stop in when I am in the area.  When I asked my husband to go to Meijer with me earlier this week, he insisted on going to the Meijer in Westland, on Warren Rd.   For some reason, he likes that store better, and I was to soon find out why.

The stores are set up a bit differently, so I was navagating a bit.  I let my husband loose, and went off on my own.

I had a wonderful experience at the pharmacy.  I couldnt believe how accomidating and kind the pharmacy technician was.  She even provided me with a money saving coupon for the item I was purchasing!

Maybe it was the day, but the customers were friendly as well.  Complete strangers being nice and sharing a laugh, I rarely have that experience at other stores!

While I was doing my shopping my husband approached the manager.  He was interested in purchaseing some magnetic sign hangers that Meijer uses on their shelves.  The manager told my husband that they are not for sale but that he could have some, no charge!

I have shopped at many stores.  Customer service at some stores has been so bad, that I will travel further in order to shop elsewhere.

Meijer in Wesland has it all -  Friendly management, customer service, cashiers and an all around friendly atmosphere, their prices are good too!

So the next time I go shopping at  Meijer, it will be at  the Westland Meijer!

And Thanks again for those hangers!!
