What if we featured promos for the bakery department, electronics department and the clothing departments?
For bakery, why not sell "sampler" sized packages of cupcakes and cookies so customers could try these before committing to the full-sized packages? For example, sell 3 smaller "sampler" sized cupcakes priced accordingly, and sell 6-8 smaller chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin cookies as opposed to the 25 or in the full-sized pachage? If someone is on a diet, they might prefer these products anyway. We could also have a Meijer team member circulating through the store and offering the sample products in our "rollout" week. Maybe offer promos of "Save 50c or 10% when you buy Two Bakery Samplers" to build momentum behind the products intro. This might build traffic in the bakery departments. We could also have a table of the bakery sampler products placed in front of the entry to the cash register aisles to encourage "impulse" purchases.
For the Electronics department, why not offer some sort of promo for the purchase of multiple CDs or DVDs: "Save 10% when you buy 2 or more CDs or DVDs." I think video games are too pricey to do this.
How bout a similar promo for the clothing departments where the customer "Saves 10% when they buy 2 or more pieces of clothing" (multiple departments allowed.) Maybe make this only applicable to non-sale merchandise.
Why not try any or all of these and see if there's not a corresponding uptick in sales?? Isn't it worth a try?
