Meijer Announces Voluntary Recall of Meijer Brand Apple Juice
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – August 25, 2009 – Today, Meijer initiated a voluntary recall of Meijer Brand Apple Juice sold in its stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.
Specifically, Meijer has recalled the following items:
· Meijer Apple Juice (sold in 64 ounce plastic containers) -UPC 00000000-41250-94314-3 with a “sell by” date of 4/16/10
Meijer has taken these steps following notification from its supplier that the product may contain elevated levels of patulin, an organic compound found in “stored” apples. While Patulin is found in many types of Apple Juice, elevated levels can cause mild stomach discomfort.
Meijer requests that customers who have purchased this product destroy the product or return it to any Meijer location for a full refund. If Meijer customers are unsure if they have the recalled product, they can call the Meijer customer contact center at 800-543-3704.
