Product Description: This safety recall involves Abbott’s Diabetic Care Test Strips.  Only certain lot numbers of Precision Xtra, MediSense Optium, Optium, Optium EZ, and ReliOn Ultima glucose test strips are being recalled.  These test strips were manufactured between January and September 2010 and were sold in retail and online settings directly to consumers, but were also used in health facilities.

Summary of Recall:  Abbott in cooperation with the FDA, is voluntarily recalling certain lots of Precision Xtra Test Strips because it gives falsely low glucose results.  False results may lead patients to try to raise their blood glucose unnecessarily, or they may fail to treat elevated blood glucose because of a false, low reading. 

For a listing of lot numbers affected please refer to the website:  www.precisionoptiuminfo.com.  The LOT NUMBER is located on the bottom of the test trip carton and on the back of the test strip foil package. (See picture above.)

What You Should Do:   Consumers should stop using the product immediately and contact Abbott’s Diabetic Care for return instructions. Do NOT return product to Meijer.
